This couple came to me because they loved my themed photography work, and for their session we created a pirate and mermaid story in St. Augustine, Florida. The goal wasn't just to take photos of them in costumes, but to make the entire session feel like a story unfolding between two characters.
We photographed the couple as the pirate and mermaid slowly discovering each other along the shore. I wanted the images to feel like the beginning of a fantasy romance, so I photographed him as though he had just arrived and was discovering her for the first time. After the shoot, I took the concept even further in Photoshop by adding a boat on the horizon, creating the feeling that he had sailed to shore and found her waiting for him.
I loved creating this St. Augustine themed photography session because it combined storytelling, costumes, creative direction, and photo editing into one complete concept. Instead of simply documenting a pirate and mermaid costume, we were able to create a visual story about how these two characters met and fell in love.
