This Fleming Island family photography session was a little different from the larger family sessions I typically photograph. I was asked to photograph my friend Aladora's grandparents, and because they are unable to move around very much due to their age, we focused on creating meaningful portraits within a comfortable setting rather than trying to create a large variety of locations or poses.
Some of my favorite images from the session were the simplest ones. We also photographed a small ceramic elephant that her grandfather gave her grandmother as a gift on their first date. Including details like this made the session about more than simply taking family portraits. It gave us a chance to preserve a small piece of their history and the story they've shared together.
I loved being able to photograph this Fleming Island family session because it showed that meaningful photography doesn't require a large production or a complicated location. Sometimes the most important photographs are the ones that preserve the people, objects, and memories that have been part of a family's life for years.
